Joseph T. "Koolaid" Beasley, 88, passed away, Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, in Methodist Hospice Residence, Memphis, TN. Born on Oct. 14, 1928 in Black Rock, AR, son of William Marion and Jessie Clementine (Butler) Beasley Sr. Married to Elaine M. (Winchester) on Aug. 21, 1954, she passed away on March 17, 2013. Formerly employed at Van Galder Bus Co., Smith Oil, Piggly Wiggly, and owner of Phantom Charter Bus Co. Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952 in which he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. Life member of Court Street United Methodist Church. He loved spending time baking and traveling with his grandchildren. He spent his earlier years as a Scout Leader with Troop 55 who ran Pierce Lake Trails. His hobbies were fishing, bowling, and gardening.
Survivors included twin daughters, Diane (Scott) Patterson of Chesapeake, VA, Debra (David) Monroe of Atoka, TN; sons, Stephen (Sabrina) Beasley of Augusta, GA, and James (Diana) Beasley of South Beloit, IL; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Beasley of FL; sister, Pat (Robert) Hunt of Durand, IL; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant son, David Joseph; great-grandson, Ezekiel Noel; brothers, William (Edna) Beasley Jr., Henry (Lavonne) Beasley; sisters, Dorothy Jones and Linda (Walt) Neitzel; sister-in-law, Karen Beasley; several infant brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation on Thurs., Sept. 14, 2017 from 5 - 7 p.m., in Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, IL. Service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 15, 2017 in the funeral home, with Pastor Calvin Culpepper of Court Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Durand Cemetery, Durand, IL.
