Katherine Maxine (Duffy) Nelson - 93
7/10/1924 - 11/16/2017
Kaye, 93, passed away on November 16, 2017, surrounded by her family in Presence St. Anne Center, Rockford after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 10, 1924 to Leo and Anna (Kane) Duffy. She was born and raised on a farm outside of Fairbank, Iowa. During World War II Kaye moved to Rockford and worked in the war effort as a "Rosie the Riveter". She married her husband, Cully, in 1946 after his return from the war. She was always there to help. Helping Cully, helping her children and helping her community. As a stay at home mom, she served on many PTA boards, as a homeroom mother, as well as being a Girl Scout Leader, Mom and Peacemaker. Her children were her life. She loved them all and they loved her. She was never afraid of hard work and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. A cup of coffee and a donut always made her happy whether it be with the kids or visitors and she loved to share a story or provide a meal for anyone. Her home was always bright and cheerful as her flowers bloomed and her gardens flourished. Her faith and love were never ending and everlasting. Kaye and Cully "wintered" in Florida for 25 years. Survivors include her sons, Jim (Linda McAllister) Nelson of Rockford, Tom (Denise Chapman) Nelson of Aurora, IL, and Russ (Deb Davis) Nelson of Nekoosa, WI; daughters, Cheri (Nelson) Friemuth of Rockford and Kathy (Terry) Meinking of Cincinnati, Ohio.
