"Richard "Red" Ackerson, 69, died at 9:55 p.m., Thurs., June 28, 2007 inhis home, surrounded by his family. Born Mar. 5, 1938 in Rochelle, IL, the son ofRaymond and Eloise (Slothower) Ackerson. A former resident of Byron, he moved toBelvidere, IL in 1990. Married for nearly 50 years to the former Janet E. Gilroy. Theymarried in Dixon, IL on July 16, 1957. In 1975, he founded A & G Blacktop, Inc. andremained the owner/operator until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed trap shooting,fishing, and pull trucks. He owned and operated "The Mighty Mouse" pull truck formany years. Survivors include his wife Janet of Belvidere, a daughter, Dawne Ackersonof Caledonia, IL, 3 sons, John (Linda) Ackerson of Belvidere, IL, Monty (Kelly)Ackerson of Byron, IL, and David (Robin) Ackerson of Ohio, IL, 8 grandchildren, MartyListon, Greg Liston, Christina Rhodes, Nicole Ackerson, Richard Ackerson, WyiattAckerson, Shianne Ackerson, and Brandi Wicaryus, his granddogs, Buddy and Barney, 8great-grandchildren, a brother, and 3 sisters. Predeceased by his parents, a baby brother,John, and his grandparents. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - noon on Mon., July 2, 2007 in Sundberg FuneralHome, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth Street, Rockford, IL 61107. The service will begin at noonwith burial to follow at Woodside Cemetery, Lee Center, IL. Pastor Donald Lewis willofficiate.
