Ronald C. Magee passed away peacefully Thursday, April 27, 2017, at SwedishAmerican Hospital surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was born March 24, 1936, in Belvidere to Clarence and Marie (Moberg) Magee. Ron married Rosemary Altendorf on September 9, 1978, in Rockford. Rosie was the love of Ron's life. And Ron was the love of Rosie's life.
Two days before he died, Ron gave a card to Rosie. It said: "I wish I could stop the world for you ... because right now I want you to feel how much I truly love you. Everything else comes and goes ... but to me, you are forever."
Ron attended Genoa High School, and he graduated in 1988 from Rock Valley College with high honors and a degree in computer programming. He was employed at Rockford Mutual Insurance Co. before retiring in 1998.
Ron was active at St. James Catholic Church and was ordained as a deacon on April 27, 1996. He helped many people through his service as a deacon and as a chaplain at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Ron was a lifelong Bears and Cubs fan and was affectionately known as "Grandpa with the Cubs shirt" by his great grandsons. One of his dreams came true when he joyously saw his beloved Cubs win the World Series in 2016.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Rosie; his children, Peggy (Rich) Fuller, Kirkland, Laurie Hart, Rockford; Mark (Wendy) Magee, Crystal Lake, and Nancy (David) Little, Machesney Park; his grandchildren Charlene (Robert) Hickman, Jason (Janeen) Shafer, Nick (Chrystal) Shafer, David Fuller, Katie (Butch Brush) Fuller, Jason Hart, Matthew (Alisha) Hart, Joe (Bree) Magee, Alicia (Shannon) Stoltz, Melissa (Shannon) Palmer, and Dayja Little; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings Barb (Don) Sebby, Sycamore; Judy Keiser, Union; Sharon Garcia, Kingston; Bill (Leslie) Magee, Woodstock; and Dave (Lorrie) Magee, Genoa City, Wis.; brother-in-law David Blank, and numerous nieces and nephews including Jeff (Dorothy) Altendorf, Rick (Lesa) Altendorf, and Lori (Roger) Smith; great-nieces Rachel, Ashton, and Hailey; great-nephew, Austin. Also leaves behind memories of time with special friends Lois and Dick Quinn, Rochester, MN; Jo and Jerry Greenlee, Machesney Park; Marcia and Steve Chiodini, Pecatonica; Bev Johnson Rockford; Ann Eversman and Bill Didier, Rockford; and Kathy and John Barton, Rockford; and countless friends and acquaintances, including the loving and caring community of St. James.
Ron was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Ronda Magee Shafer; sister, Delores "Bonnie" Blank; bothers-in-law,David Keiser and Fortunato Garcia; and niece, Debbie (Weezy) Garcia.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2017, and 9 to 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2017, before Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. James, 428 N. Second St., Rockford. Arrangements by Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd. Online condolences at sundbergfh.com.
