Rosalie J. Gillett Johnson, 92, of Loves Park, passed away at 2:17 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2017 in Mercy Rockford Hospital. She was born the daughter of Prentiss and Kathryn (Madigan) Gillett on June 13, 1925 in Rockford. Rosalie attended Muldoon High School and later graduated from Sullivan County High School in Tennessee. She worked 43 years at General Electric, retiring in 1990. She married Robert W. Johnson in Rockford on October 16, 1990. She was an ambassador of goodwill, a life-long volunteer, and dedicated member of St. James Church. Rosalie was a member of St. James Choir for 70 years, Diocesan Chorale since the mid 1960’s, and member of St. James original Hand bell Choir. She was a volunteer of Cornucopia Food Pantry for many years and founder of St. James Elders, traveling hundreds of miles with excitement and fun on each trip. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Guild, Catholic Women’s League, and Peace and Justice Committee, helping organize large dinners and Christmas giving projects. Her heart was near and dear to Poor Clare’s Monastery her entire life, visiting and donating there often. Rosalie was named St. James Woman of the Year in the early 1990’s. She will be remembered as a pillar of her parish and truly missed by all.
Survived by her husband, Robert of Loves Park; brother, Francis Gillett of Rockford; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Prentiss and Gordon, and sister, Therese Cordray.
Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2017 in St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. Second St., Rockford with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Sundberg Funeral Home, Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, IL 61107. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. James Church.
