Steven Harbachuk, 85,of Rockford, IL died peacefully Saturday, May 5, 2018. Born July 2, 1932 in Rahados︣c︣, Belarus and was the beloved son to Maria and Anton Harbachuk. Steven immigrated from Germany to America after World War II and made Rockford, IL his home. He served in the army during the Korean war from 1953 to 1954 and after his honorable discharge was employed by Rockford Products for 40 years until retirement.
Steven enjoyed his active retirement years fishing and spending time with his family and was a founding parishioner of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church. He married Sophia Soroka on May 14, 1955 and cherished 62 blessed years with the love and joy of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Sophia; daughter,Wanda (Mike) Oslund of Rockford IL,;son, George (Susan) Harbachuk of Seattle WA,; grandchildren, Tanya (Andy) Pirrello, Eric (Courtney) Oslund, Kasea, Loren, and Alek Harbachuk; great-grandchildren Leah, Taegen, Keaton (AKA kitten or Jack), sister, Nina Miller; numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, brother Nick; sisters,Luba and Nadia.
Services will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at 10 a.m .in Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, 1802 Pershing Ave., Rockford, IL with Father Jonathan Bannon officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Sundberg Funeral Home 215 N. Sixth Street Rockford, IL with prayer service to immediately follow.
