James T. Colombi Jr. - 86
8/4/1931 - 7/3/2018
James T. Colombi, 86 was called home by our Savior and his wife Rosi on July 3, 2018. Born in Rockford on August 4, 1931 to James and Catherine (Guenzani) Colombi. He was a lifelong member of St. James Parish and second of five generations to attend St. James School. Jim graduated from St. Thomas high school and was Rockford’s first 5 time letterman as he excelled in all sports. He met Rosi Balla in Lake Geneva in 1950 and they were wed at St. Bonaface Catholic Church in Chicago on September 1, 1951. They were happily married for 64 years until her passing on May 18, 2015 after battling a long illness. They raised 5 sons of their own and gained another along the way with Stanley Stroud, their adopted son. After a successful career in the Tile and Terrazzo business, Rosi and Jim decided to go into the bar business. They established Snoopy’s Supper Club in 1970 currently known as CJ’s Public House which remains a popular Pub and Eatery though 3 generations in Downtown Rockford. Jim was not only a successful entrepreneur, but more importantly led a life of charity with everyone he met. He was always willing to offer a hot plate, a warm home or good advice to help people get back on their feet. Every holiday with family was first shared with those that did not have their own which has been carried on through the generations. Throughout his life, he was involved in almost every charity and private club you could think of. He served as past State President of the Illinois Licensed Beverage Association and spent numerous years as the President of the Verdi Club where he was instrumental in bringing Bocce to the Club. He was also a lifelong member of the Association of Clubs, Lombardi Club, St. Ambrose Club and LLL Club. Most importantly, he always found a way to tie these positions into helping those in need. Contributions to the Father Don’s Sky Ranch for Boys, Milestone and St. Jude were just a few of the groups that felt Jim’s graciousness. Jim’s goal in life was to not only achieve as a businessman, but to ensure his children carried on a life of selfless service and giving back to those in need. In his spare time, Jim could found on the golf course, watching the Cubs or spending time with his many grandchildren.
Jim now joins his parents, wife, sister Rose Marie, brother Phillip, brother-in-law’s Bill Weirman and Vince Vincent, son Stanley and many dear friends in heaven.
